We want to see significant improvement in the quality of the strategic road network and the lifeline routes; in the quality of public transport vehicles, vessels and aircraft where these are aging, uncomfortable or unreliable; in the speed and quality of rail services; and we want to see much better facilities at key terminals and interchanges. We will pursue the following initiatives:
o Upgrade key sections of the strategic network and lifeline roads which are single track
o Upgrade of the key trunk roads which enable travel to and from the region (A82, A96, A9, A95)
o Upgrade of ageing vessels, buses and trains
o Quality facilities at key airports, ports, stations and interchanges
o Multi-modal freight interchanges at strategic locations
o Upgrade of the rail network for higher speed, higher frequency services, and more carriage of freight
o Fixed links to replace short ferry crossings
o Priority bus routes in towns
o Improved facilities for cyclists and pedestrians
