We want to reduce the costs of transport for people and goods by specifically tackling the issue of high fares and by reducing journey times. Except where the local authority runs or supports services, the partners can have no direct influence on fares. However HITRANS will actively lobby for fare reductions and will develop the following initiatives to cut costs for all our network's users.
- Wider use of Public Service Orders to secure services and reduce fares
- Discounted fares and reduced freight tariffs
- Investing in key infrastructure, such as lifeline routes, to reduce the cost and slowness of transport of goods
- Reduction in the fuel cost burden in remote and rural areas
- Better freight interchange for quicker access to market
