6/2/2014 - Lewis, Harris and North East Scotland travel survey launched

Residents, businesses and visitors who travel between the Outer Hebrides and the Aberdeen area are being encouraged to take part in an independent online survey on journey needs.

The survey, which starts today (Monday June 2) is part of a study that has been commissioned by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) in response to requests from groups in the Outer Hebrides for an enhanced air service between Stornoway and Aberdeen.

It is being undertaken by consultants ekosgen to assess potential demand for services.

Information is being sought from anyone who travels from, or who has an interest in routes between Lewis and Harris and the north east of Scotland. This includes those making the journey for travel to work, including offshore workers, or for any other reason.

Tony Jarvis, HIE’s Senior Development Manager for Transport, said: “This survey is a key part of the study. It will help us to better understand the travel market and the potential benefits of increased flights between Stornoway and Aberdeen.

“We would encourage as many individuals, businesses and other organisations as possible to take part in the survey. We are also keen to hear from those who currently travel between the two areas but don’t use the Stornoway-Aberdeen air service. We are aware that some people fly between Stornoway and Inverness or use the Stornoway-Ullapool ferry to make trips between Lewis, Harris and the Aberdeen area. The greater the number of responses, then the more accurate the picture of existing travel and potential demand for an enhanced Stornoway-Aberdeen air service will be.”

The survey will run until Monday June 23rd. It can be accessed at http://rdcaviation.com/survey/stornoway/
